How it works

Four steps stand between creating an account and the first position on the map. At the end of the page we say where the data sits and for how long.

Step 1

Create an account and confirm the address

Fill in the registration form. A message with a link valid for 24 hours goes to the address you gave. Open the link and the account is ready. The same login gets you into this site and into the taklab-hub app.

Step 2

Order the environment

Once you are signed in, you name the server and pick its size and extras. The server comes up in about five minutes, or up to ten when we are busy. Then it has its own address and runs until the deadline shown in your account.

Step 3

Hand out the data package or the QR code

The environment comes with a data package and a QR code. A participant scans the code with a phone or loads the package in ATAK. The server address and the certificate fill themselves in, so nobody retypes anything by hand.

Step 4

Work on the map

From the first minute everyone sees everyone else's position. Then there is chat and the voice channel. Video comes from a phone or a camera. Shared overlays and plans go out over Data Sync. Whoever stayed at a desk opens CloudTAK in a browser and sees the same picture.

Where the data sits and for how long

Below are only the things you can check in the code of the environment. What is not here, we do not promise.

  • The servers run in the AWS cloud, in the Frankfurt region.
  • Every environment gets its own Kubernetes namespace and its own certificate authority.
  • ATAK connects to the server over TLS, an encrypted connection. The certificate comes from that environment's authority and travels in the data package.
  • Network rules in the cluster cut the environments off from one another.
  • An environment has a suspension deadline: after it the server stops answering. The data stays until a second, later deadline and is deleted then. You see both deadlines in your account.
  • Of your personal data we keep the login and the email address. On top of that, the data of your environments.

What we do with that data is described by the privacy policy on the Documents page.
